About Us

Our Mission Statement

“To build community through quality musical performances
and civic engagement that promotes a world that
accepts and values diversity.”

Fort Lauderdale has always been a rapidly growing community, and we’re growing our reach and our community focus with new venues beyond downtown, such as Pembroke Pines and Lauderhill, reaching out with performances in assisted senior living centers, combining with other Arts organizations, to commemorate historical LGBT events like Stonewall, and engaging together with LGBTQ High School youth and their allies.

We helped start the LGBTQ chorus movement with our nationally recognized founding Director, Dr. Gary Keating, who launched us in 1986 as the first gay performing arts organization in the state of Florida, and one of the first in the nation and in the world. Today, there are thousands.

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz gives Director Dr. Gary Keating the U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Medal of Honor for his founding role in the LGBT Chorus Movement in the United States FTLGMG President Justin Knight with US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of South Florida at the Stonewall Pride 50th Anniversary concert presented in conjunction with other LGBTQ arts organizations

FTLGMC has commissioned and performed several original musical works, such as “Living Out Loud” a nine song cycle by gay composer Robert Seeley and his partner Robert Espindola, well-known for other LGBT compositions such as “Brave Souls and Dreamers” and “Naked Man”

We prepare and present quality musical productions and challenging compositions with incredibly talented guest stars such as Broadway’s own Lisa Vroman and Martha Bartz.

FTLGMC has performed at numerous civic events including most recently for the Broward County Commission, at voter registration events, with the Stonewall Pride Parade and at various senior living centers.

Broward County Commissioners invited the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus to perform before the entire Commission.

The Fort Lauderdale and surrounding Broward county community remains increasingly diverse.  We promote acceptance of the gifts brought by the “other” and value these differences by celebrating them:

Annually, we participate in the Christmas on Las Olas celebration and the Wilton Manors Holiday Tree lighting.   We commemorate historic LBGT events such as Stonewall’s 50th Anniversary by collaborating with other regional arts organizations.

FTLGMC represents our gay musical community and works together with LGBT youth groups which share our vision of valuing diversity in our community.

The FTLGMC promotes acceptance and values diversity in our membership, sponsors, audiences, and community-at-large

The FTLGMC promotes acceptance and values diversity, as it supports Congresswoman DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ with the chorus at the JEWISH HERITAGE MONTH event in Pembroke Pines, May 2017
